The Norwich Branch of the Royal Naval Association recently held their annual Trafalgar Night Dinner at Wensum Valley Gold Club, with 92 members, their partners and guest attending. The commemoration of Trafalgar Night is a time honoured tradition in the Royal Navy, held on the 21 October each year to remember the victory of Great Britain by the Royal Navy at The Battle of Trafalgar, in which Lord Nelson gave his life.
Lord Nelson was born in the county of Norfolk, and the Norwich Branch are extremely proud of this link with one of Great Britain’s most acclaimed sailors, and as a consequence the Norwich Branch hold their Trafalgar Night celebrations in high esteem.
During the course of the evenings celebrations we had speeches from our special guests, who this year saw Lt Cdr Andy Taylor SMETO / Senior Navy Officer East of England and POMETOC Richard Smith from RAF Marham attending; with the CO of the Norwich Sea Cadets, CPO (SC) Mike Massen also in attendance. A raffle was held during the evening with proceeds going to Branch funds, finally the evening was topped off with live entertainment.
