Royal Naval Association – Norwich Branch (Once Navy, Always Navy) – Open Month

The Norwich Branch of the Royal Naval Association will be holding an ‘open month’ during the month of September to entice new members to join the organisation. The event is an open invitation to those that have served in The Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Women’s Royal Naval Service (WRNS), Queen Alexandra’s Royal Naval Nursing Service (QARNNS), Royal Naval Reserve (RNR), Royal Marines Reserve (RMR), Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) and Royal Naval Auxiliary Service (RNXS).

During the month, the Branch will be hosting two open events which non-members are welcome to attend to gain a taste of the Royal Naval Association. The first event is the Branch ‘Run Ashore’ which is being held at 2000 on Saturday 2nd September at The Eagle Public House on Newmarket Road. The second event is the Branch Meeting, which is being held at 1930 on Tuesday 26th September at The Canary Social Club 104, Thorpe Road (junction with Rosary Road) in Norwich.

The Norwich Branch is one of the largest Branches in the United Kingdom, with a membership of around 90 members who are predominately ex-members of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, many of whom have seen conflict from the Second World War; including the Battle of the Atlantic and the D-Day Landings through to the Falklands War, Gulf Wars 1 and 2 and Afghanistan.

The Association is for everyone to join, whether you are currently serving or have served in the Naval Service; it’s also for your family and friends. We know that once Naval Service has been experienced, life is never the same again, but in the RNA, it can be shared and enjoyed for the rest of your life. As a member of the RNA, you’ll have access to social and welfare advice, involvement in our many social or fundraising events.

Annual events organised and attended by Norwich Branch include Trafalgar Night, visits to RAF Marham, tours of local places of interest (including Carrow Road, Norwich Aviation Museum), Battlefield Tours of Northern France and Belgium, Armed Forces Day, services for Edith Cavell, the Happisburgh Memorial Service, the Desert Rats and Normandy Veterans Services and of course Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.

So, interested in finding out more?  Please come along to one of our Open Events. Membership to the Royal Naval Association is an Annual Fee of £18 (£14 and a further £4 to join the Norwich Branch).  If you are unable to make one of our Open Events then the Branch meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at The Canary Social Club on Thorpe Road
