July’s Branch Meeting was held at the Canary Social Club on 11 July 2017 with 48 members attending.
The usual formalities were observed with a minute’s silence for those that have crossed the bar, followed by reports from:
The Chairman welcomed potential new S/M’s David Pye and Steve Dean to the meeting.
The Chairman opened by conveying the news that our past President Jim Bowles had crossed the bar on the 1st July after spending the last few months in a care home. His family were with him when he passed away. The Chairman gave a personal tribute to S/M Jim Bowles.
Continued by advising that the Chairman’s Annual Report has been submitted and has received an “excellent” rating from the Area Secretary. The Report was read to all present.
Advised that after much discussion regarding Sea Sunday and this Branch’s annual service of remembrance, the Committee have recommended that a short service of remembrance, together with the names of Branch members who have “crossed the bar” during the past year, should be held at either the October or November Branch meeting.
Provided a “well done” to John Kett for carrying the Branch Standard at the Armed Forces Day Flag Raising ceremony at City Hall and the final parade at the Royal Norfolk Show. The latter event was well organised and was an impressive display, thanks to all those who turned up to support the event.
Mentioned that he had recently been on a Broads cruise from Wroxham on board the ‘Queen of the Broads’. It was a very good afternoon trip for about two and a half hours. A smaller ship, the ‘Cordon Rouge’ can take up to 60 passengers and, if the price is right, would be ideal for a Branch outing. The Social Committee have agreed to investigate this further.
Confirmed that Dorothy Pains Funeral will take place at 1315 on 18 July at St Faiths Crematorium. Advising that the dress code will be Blazers, shirt and tie with medals.
Closed by reporting that the Branch will be holding an Open Month in September and Posters are available to all Members to promote the event, please publicise this event as much as you can.
The Membership Secretary advised that there are new Membership Leaflets available, and that a new Attendance Register is circulating for Members to sign.
As from 12th July the Britannia Veterans Drop in Centre will be holding a Coffee Morning, each month. 1000 – 1400. All welcome
