March’s Branch Meeting was held at the Canary Social Club on 14 March 2017 with 37 members attending.
The usual formalities were observed with a minute’s silence for those that have crossed the bar, followed by reports from:
Welcomed two new members to the Branch, being S/M’s Gavin Scott and Chris Woolands. Continued by thanking all those Shipmates that had attended the funerals of ex-Royal Marine George Ramm and S/M Ian McAuley; before advising that he had recently attended. along with other Branch members, the annual Sea Cadet awards ceremony and on behalf of the Branch awarded a cheque to the best Cadet, Joshua Hayles. He was also asked to inspect the Royal Marine Cadets and he considered it a great honour, commenting that they were smart and well turned out. Finally, reminded all Shipmates that this Saturday coming is the annual HMS Invincible memorial service at Happisburgh Church, commencing at 1200. Please attend if you can, the more we have on parade the bigger our ‘footprint’ within the wider community.
Reminded Shipmates that Portsmouth harbour is awaiting a visit from HMS Queen Elizabeth and dredgers have been hard at work deepening the central harbour area. Only one bomb scare reported thus far! No date for the ship’s arrival is known yet and HMS Queen Elizabeth can only enter with the wind 5 knots or less and one hour either side of high tide so even the captain will struggle with an exact date. Arrival is forecast July to September.

The Chairman advised that Daryl’s Day is arranged for 25 June and this will follow AFD on 24 June in Felixstowe. The RM will be in attendance as they have four permanent events that they attend each year, with a fifth that floats year on year, and this year will seem them attending the event at Daryl’s Day so this should be a well-attended event.
